Main Text: Luke 11:1-13

Introduction: Prayer is essential to Christian life. Just as the Word of God is the food of the spirit, prayer is the breath and ventilation to the spirit. They are both indispensible. Prayer is the only means of communicating with God. Prayer can be planned, unplanned, silent, loud, inspired or ordered (written).

The purpose of prayer is to make human feelings and needs known to God.

From ages past God has maintained His integrity as a prayer answering God; that is why all flesh will continue to seek Him, ask from Him, and come to Him. (Psalm 65:1-2).

Consistent prayer life is thus mandatory considering the above. We need to develop a consistent prayer life because prayer is:

  1. Our means of relating with God.
  2. Our means of spiritual strength (Isaiah 40:31).
  3. Our means of making our requests and needs known to God. (Philippians 4:6).
  4. Our means of receiving help and answers from God. (Jeremiah 33:3).
  5. Our means of securing good and peaceful society. (1Timothy 2:1-2).
  6. Our means of fulfilling the Great Commission. (1Timothy 2:1-4).
  7. Our means of overcoming the devil and the flesh. (Matthew 6:13).

How to Develop a Consistent Prayer Life

  1. Have a right relationship with God. (Matthew 6:9, John 1:12).
  2. Open yourself for the in filling of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:26, Jude 20).
  3. Create a prayer time and keep it. (Mark 1:35, Acts 3:1).
  4. Have a prayer menu and plan. An example is P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P
